At Northern Arizona Electrical Solutions, we take great care and attention to detail with each ceiling fan installation. While many handyman homeowners can tackle this project by themselves, it’s always recommended to hire professional electricians when dealing with wiring — whether at home or at a business.
Every fan we swap out begins with making sure safety comes first by turning the power off at the breaker. Once the power is off, we remove the existing light fixture, and inspect the existing electrical box. Many older electrical boxes are not rated for supporting the weight or vibration of a ceiling fan, so we need to make sure your box is rated for your new fan. If the box isn’t right, we will replace it with the right one so that your installation is completely safe and ready for long-term use.
Once the box is installed properly, we assemble the ceiling fan according to the manufacturer’s assembly instructions. Every screw, bracket and blade have to go together in the correct manner for the fan to be balanced. When assembled, we then mount the ceiling fan bracket to the box in the ceiling, and make sure the bracket is tightened evenly so there is no movement when operating.
Next we connect all the wires. Black wire to black, for power, white wire to white, for neutral, and green or bare wire to ground. Each connection is checked to make sure it is secure and there is a clean contact. After the wiring is connected we will mount the motor to the bracket and confirm that the motor is locked in place.
The next step is to mount the blades to the fan, one at a time. If doing this yourself, you need to pay attention to the blade spacing, and make sure they are evenly spaced apart so the fan does not wobble (this is aided by pre-drilled holes). If there is a light kit that came with the fan, we get that installed and wired as instructed, mount the light housing, and confirm everything is working properly.
When fully tightened down, we flip the power back on and conduct our final test to ensure everything functions as intended. We test to make sure the fan is rotating smoothly (if not, we balance it), spinning in the correct direction, lights work, remote control works (if your fan came with one), and wall switches are doing their job. Every ceiling fan that we install is up to our standards for safety, stability, and performance, all made to last, and keep our clients comfortable throughout the year.
